Red Sox sign Grady Sizemore to one-year deal

The Boston Red Sox agreed to a one-year contract with outfielder Grady Sizemore. Sizemore's deal is worth $750,000, but it can go up to $6 million with incentives.

Sizemore has not played a major league game since 2011, according to CBSSports. Sizemore has endured multiple injuries throughout his career, and he has had to undergo seven surgeries since 2009.

Before his injuries, Sizemore was an All-Star caliber hitter for the Cleveland Indians, making trips to the All-Star Game from 2006-08. He hit 107 home runs and had 115 stolen bases from 2005-08 and made himself an MVP candidate each of those years.

Sizemore was being heavily pursued by the Cincinnati Reds, according to NBCSports. It is unknown why Sizemore decided to leave the state of Ohio.

Sizemore is not expected to return to All-Star form, but he may prove to be a bargain signing for the Red Sox.

At the very least, Sizemore will provide outfield depth for the Red Sox as he helps replace Jacoby Ellsbury, who departed to the Yankees. Jackie Bradley Jr. is expected to start in center field.
