Remans of fugitive found buried in Washington

The remains of the long searched fugitive Dennis "Slick" Lilly are thought to have been found in Washington State.

After being arrested for burglary and assault, Slick escaped from the Missouri State Penitentiary in 1986 by stealing a uniform of a penitentiary guard and walking out of the building.

Lilly ventured across the United States to Washington with his wife after escaping the cell.

Once in Washington, Lilly and his wife changed their names to David and Amanda Murray after using stolen identities.

The Seattle Post Intelligencer stated that after settling, the couple settled in a town containing around 2,000 people. The two eventually started running their own business. Around the holidays, Lilly would dress as Santa and take photos with children who visited their business.

The Seattle Post Intelligencer also says that Lilly became so comfortable with his escape that he was able call the authorities and report crime suspicions that came upon his business.

The FBI has been on the search for Lilly for years. He has even been featured on America's Most Wanted.

According to Reuters, Lilly developed cancer and eventually passed away in 2012. His wife then buried him in their backyard from the fear of drawing attention by holding a formal burial for the fugitive.

The suspicion of Lilly's whereabouts were triggered after his wife submitted a job application in which the birthdate and social security number did not match up. The FBI was soon after contacted by an employee of the online stock brokerage.

The FBI then connected the woman with Lilly and the remains of the man are assumed to have been found last Thursday in the backyard of the residence. An examiner will work to verify that the remains are that of Lilly, as well as the cause of death and the investigation will continue from there.

The authorities have no intentions of pressing any charges on the woman.
