Rosie O'Donnell to return to ABC's 'The View' this week for the first time since heated departure

Rosie O’Donnell is returning to ABC’s The View, but this time as a guest. It’s been no secret that the veteran actress didn’t leave her stint as co-host on the best of terms.

O’Donnell hasn’t returned to the panel since she left the show seven years, so they will surely have a lot to catch up on. She will appear on the show, now co-hosted by creator Barbara Walters, Sherri Shepherd, Jenny McCarthy and Whoopie Goldberg, on Friday.

In a statement, Walters expressed her excitement that O’Donnell would returning to the program by saying “I have great affection for Rosie and we have remained in contact throughout the years. I am happy to welcome her back to the program. She is always a lively and engaging guest and a part of the show’s successful history,” Variety reports.

After O’Donnell left the show in 2007 following a heated political discussion with then-co host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on air, she wrote on her blog "I was really just like a foster kid for a year. We considered adoption, but I didn't really fit in with the family, and now it's time for the foster kid to go back home,” People reports.

She also said of her fight with Hasselbeck, “When I saw the split screen I knew it was over." Hasselbeck has since moved on to Fox & Friends.
