Samuel L. Jackson helps combat childhood cancers in new PSA

The battle against cancer is never an easy fight, but when you have the support of one of the toughest actors in Hollywood the struggle might just become a bit easier to bear. Samuel L. Jackson alongside the St. Baldrick's Foundation and the Stand Up to Cancer organization have released a new public service announcement, in order to help raise awareness in helping combat childhood cancers.

The PSA which has been given the title of “In Play,” hopes to expand awareness of childhood cancers to help children in need. The hope is that this campaign will benefit the infants, children, and young adults worldwide that suffer from the cancer disease and have them receive treatment from pediatric oncologists.

The movement also looks to bring awareness in helping support organizations that continue to strive for better treatments and develop cures. To bring forth a harsh statistic, each year 175,000 children are affected by the cancer disease worldwide. Both the St. Baldrick's Foundation and Stand Up to Cancer hope to one day change that statistic.

According to CNN, Jackson said in a statement, "When I was a child in the 1950s, most kids who got diagnosed with cancer had little chance of survival. Now, there is hope." The Academy-Award nominated star continued to mention, "I am honored to join Stand Up to Cancer and the St. Baldrick's Foundation to help educate people about childhood cancer and the importance of seeing a pediatric oncologist."

PR Newswire reports that the chief executive officer Kathleen Ruddy mentioned, "Samuel L. Jackson is a powerful actor and has played some seriously tough guys." She went on to say, "It seems very fitting that we have someone with his level of intensity and power speaking out against childhood cancers, which are seriously tough diseases. We are grateful to him for getting the message out that childhood cancer patients – even those who are teens and young adults – must be seen by pediatric cancer specialists for the best chance at survival.”

Samuel L. Jackson is well-known throughout Hollywood for playing iconic characters in numerous films. This time however, he won't be acting, yet he'll still be playing the role of hero for young children worldwide.
