Seth Meyers is Time Magazine’s first 2014 cover star, talks new 'Late Night' gig

Seth Meyers will be making his late night television debut next month and the Saturday Night Live star has earned the first cover of Time Magazine for 2014. In the article, Meyers talked about getting ready for his new position and transitioning from SNL to Late Night.

Meyers is still getting used to the idea of not working on SNL and is moving from one office to another at NBC’s headquarters in Rockefeller Center. In the interview with James Poniewozik, Meyers said that he’s currently commuting between the two offices when he meets with the Late Night writing team. “It's like having two families. I feel like Ray Liotta at the end of Goodfellas, with the helicopter following me,” he said.

Entertainment Weekly notes that Meyers’ Late Night set is still under construction. However, his format will be very familiar to late night television viewers, but with a Meyers spin. Producer Mike Shoemaker and Meyers told Time that they will bring in “more authors, politicians and explainers” and will have sketches starring his staff.

Amy Poehler was also interviewed and said that she hopes to be on her former Weekend Update co-anchor’s show. “He enjoys bringing the best out of people. Maybe it’s his improv training, but he really knows how to make other people look good,” she said.

Late Night with Seth Meyers debuts on Feb. 24 and he will continue being on SNL until early February.
