'The Crazy Ones' recap

The episode begins with a news report about a popular talking kids doll, Randy Jenkins, saying horrific things like, "Kill Mommy." The company that manufactures the doll ordered an immediate recall.

Two of the company's execs come to Simon and the gang begging them to help them do damage control because they don't want to take their biggest seller off the market completely despite pressure from parents. Andrew suggests reminding the country of "what a national treasure you have in Randy," though he admits that the doll creeps him out with her eyes always following him. Simon suggests they "rehab Randy...and teach her to keep her murderous thoughts to herself." He then suggests "a grand apology tour with Randy Jenkins as the Marshall." Sydney adds that she can do "mall appearances, radio spots, essentially reintroduce her to the country." The two execs love their ideas and say they need the campaign by Friday. Simon agrees to their terms.

After the meeting, a little girl comes up to Zach, asks him if he's a doll and asks if she can touch his hair. He agrees, but she sneezes her gum right into his mouth and runs away.

Andrew sees Sydney is a good mood and she mentions that she has a date. Then, Amanda bursts in and tells Andrew how Sydney is downplaying how psyched she is, how he's a pediatrician and they like all the same things. Andrew thinks it's great that Sydney is dating casually, but Lauren says it isn't casual and Sydney is ready to settle down. Sydney denies this, but then rattles off how perfect they are for each other. Andrew says that he sounds great but asks Sydney not to get her hopes up. She says she won't but then gives a scenario that ends with her and the pediatrician getting married. Simon then comes over and tells Sydney that she has to take over yet another campaign because the two people assigned to it called in sick. Lauren then chimes that a few others did too and blames Zach since the little girl sneezed on him. Sydney tells Zach to go home but Simon won't let him since they're already short staffed. Sydney then tells Simon that Kyle, the pediatrician have been trying to set their date up for months and if she gets sick she can't go and some other girl with snatch him up, "Don't you want grandkids?" Simon replies that he does, but right now wants Zach more. Sydney agrees but says that anyone who gets sick has to be quarantined and tells Zach to "get into your cage Outbreak monkey." Zach denies that he's sick even when Lauren and Simon lock him in a conference room.

Lauren asks Simon if she can help coordinate the apology tour since they're so short staffed. She then pitches him a great idea and he agrees.

Andrew finds Zach in the kitchen sneaking some food. He asks him if the Sydney/Kyle the pediatrician situation is weird. Zach thinks it's great and asks why Andrew cares since he's back with Nancy. Andrew replies that they broke up. Zach then mentions Sydney and Andrew's obvious "thing" and how they each look at each other but the other doesn't see. Zach tells Andrew to go after Sydney before Dr. Kyle gets her.

Andrew cites doctor suicide rates out loud and Sydney comes off the elevator. More and more people are getting sick and going into the quarantined conference room as Sydney wears a doctor's mask. Then, Sydney takes "selfies" to send to Kyle but Andrew is in the background of each one.

Lauren finds that Simon snuck Zach out of quarantine. They tell her they came up with an idea for an online contest where girls across America can record their best "I'm sorry" and the winner can be the voice of a limited-edition Randy Jenkins doll. Simon then tells Lauren that the head of the tour also got sick so she has to coordinate the whole thing. She's psyched as he tells her what she needs to do. Zach offers to help but Lauren says she can handle it on her own and tells him to get away from her. Then, she coughes. She denies she's getting sick but Zach whispers as he goes back to quarantine, "It's coming for you."

Sydney sees a glass of water on her desk as she and Andrew are coordinating the Randy Jenkins relaunch. She accuses him of trying to get her sick so she can't go.her date. He denies this. He then asks him if he's jealous, which he also denies. "We keep saying that we're friends, but we both know there is something else going on between us and I'm not the only one who thinks so," Andrew tells Sydney, who doesn't want to talk about it. Andrew then tells her that if he's wrong, he'll never bring it up again. Sydney then admits that there's something between but is afraid of could happen if it doesn't work out. "I don't want to lose my best friend," Sydney tells Andrew. Then, Sydney's phone rings, it's Kyle's ringtone, but her phone is the quarantined conference room because Zach thought it was his. Andrew then volunteers to go.in there and get it for her.

Andrew navigates through all the sick people to get to Zach who gives him Sydney's phone and wishes him luck. He avoids contact with anyone. Sydney can't believe he sacrificed his health for her. He replies, "That's what friends are for." She thanks him, tells him to put the phone down and step away. She wipes off the phone furiously as he ventures back into the sick room. They lock eyes as he leaves.

The day of the launch of the apology tour, one of the execs is talking the doll up to the press. Throngs of little girls and their parents are there. Simon then gets a call from Zach asking where the murderous talking Randy Jenkins doll is. Simon asks Lauren which dolls she sent to the launch. She says the ones he asked her to, but we see coughing and only picking up two dolls instead of three. Simon intervenes before the little girl activates the doll in question. He asks the little girl for the doll but she refuses to give it to him saying that it's hers and she wants to hear what she says. The little girl activates the doll, who starts saying more murderous things. Simon wrenchs the doll from the little girl's grasp but it won't stop talking. Horrified parents put their hands over their little girls ears. Simon can't shut it up and finally tears it's head off.

Sydney finishes grooming for her date as everyone who is quarantined cheers her on except Andrew. The elevator door opens and it's Kyle. But, then Sydney lets out a little cough. "You didn't vampire cough," he says. He says he can't take the chance she's sick because he's a pediatrician, says they'll reschedule and leaves.

Simon finds Lauren packing up her desk because she thinks she's fired. He tells her she isn't, plus the doll company didn't fire them, wants them to coordinate an apology tour for the apology tour and he needs her help. "When I hired you I knew there would be a lot of moments. I can't wait to see what's next," Simon tells Lauren.

Sydney and Andrew, who are both sick, are at her apartment watching television. Andrew apologizes for her date getting screwed up. She can't figure out how she got sick when she "took every precaution."

We flashback to Zach hiding under Sydney's desk and touching her phone instead of the doll he was going for. He retracts his hand before she sees it.

We then see that Zach is also at Sydney's apartment, sick and asking if anyone is going to be making soup. Sydney and Andrew "freeze him out."
