The Weinstein Company nabs film rights for 'A Speck in the Sea'

The Weinstein Company managed to snag the rights to a story that was recently published in the New York Times Magazine by Paul Tough.

According to the Deadline, "A Speck in the Sea" is an article that described the real-life adventure that John Aldridge, a lobster fisherman, endured after falling into the ocean forty miles out and in the middle of the night.

Aldridge did not have a life vest on or anyway to get someone's attention when he fell overboard. His partner on the boat, Anthony Sosinski, was sleeping when his friend fell overboard and he didn't know until the morning.

Harvey Weinstein said, "Paul's piece in the Times magazine last weekend was one of those that instantly struck us as film that had to be made. Rachael [Horovitz] and Jason [Blum] are some of the best in the business, and seeing this amazing story come to life is going to be a wild ride."

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Horovitz and Blum will be producing the film adaptation, along with Weinstein himself. Bob Weinstein will step in to executive produce the movie.

Tom Rothman's TriStar Productions was another company that fought with TWC for the Tough's article.
