TV Ratings: 'The Following' second season premieres strong off NFC Championship

The Following improved over its first season premiere on Sunday night, largely off the massive lead-in that the NFC Championship Game would provide.

Thanks to a strong playoff game between division rivals the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers, Fox managed to average 33.7 million viewers for the evening and nabbed a 15.4 rating in the 18-49 demographics, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The second season premiere of the Kevin Bacon-led The Following managed a 4.4 in the demo, which was a 38 percent uptick from last year's debut to a 3.2 rating, which aired during the show's normal Monday night timeslot.

The other networks mainly didn't bother to schedule against the football game, with the exception of a new episode of 60 Minutes on CBS, which managed a 1.3 in the demo, reports Deadline. CBS managed a 0.9 rating and 5.7 million viewers.

ABC's The Bachelor stayed consistent with the previous week's numbers at a 0.9 in the demo, giving the network a 0.9 rating and 4.2 million followers with all of its other shows, Revenge (1.3) and Betrayal (0.7) also down.

NBC only aired Dateline, which pulled in a 0.8 rating and the feature film Bridesmaids, with the network averaging 3.5 million viewers and a 0.9 demo rating.
