Two children seriously injured at Roswell, New Mexico shooting

Early Tuesday morning, a 14 year old boy and a 13 year old girl suffered serious injuries from a school shooting at Berrendo Middle School.

According to KOB 4 News, New Mexico State Police said that local authorities were called to the school at 8:11 a.m. where a 13 year old boy was taken into custody after a teacher tackled him to the ground, some witnesses stated.

After the situation was under control, police locked down the school, and bused all the students to the Roswell mall where their parents were waiting for them.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, sixth grade student, Anyssa Vegara, said she was talking to a security guard when she heard the shot, and then she turned around and “saw was someone on the floor with their arm bleeding.” Another student said the boy had been shot twice in the face, and the girl had been shot in the arm.

“As you're standing there and you're waiting to pick up your son seeing the faces of the children coming out and tears and scared it just breaks your heart to see these kids at such a young age to have to witness and be a part of such a tragedy,” Cathy Seely said, according to KRQE 13 News News.

The young boy and girl were first treated at the Roswell hospital, and after they were stabilized,a helicopter transported them to a UHC Health System in Lubbock, Texas.
