Bonnaroo promoter Rick Farman talks 2008 incident with 2014 headliner Kanye West, says 'everyone has moved on'

Many were surprised to find out that Kanye West is one of the headliners for Bonnaroo this year, considering his choice of words about the promoters following his 2008 set.

West wasn’t happy with the organizers giving him a daytime slot when he had a glow in the dark set, later calling them “f---ing idiots” and “squid brains” on his blog.

But promoter Rick Farman said in an interview with Relix that it’s all in the past now.

“Everyone has moved on – it's in the past. We're happy he wants to come back to Bonnaroo and is embracing this.,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity for everyone to look forward, and we think it’s a great opportunity for the Bonnaroo community to show what it's made of."

Farman even paid West the ultimate compliment, calling him “one of the most prolific and groundbreaking artists of this generation.”

“He takes a lot of chances and he's adventurous with the live space,” he continued of West. “All those things are what Bonnaroo performers are about. That's why we booked him [in 2008]."

Back to his rant, West took to his blog after his set in back in 2008 and delivered one of his classic all-caps tirades.

"WE WERE OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH F--KING IDIOTS WHO DIDN'T REALLY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REALLY PUT ON THIS SHOW PROPERLY. THEY TRIED 2 GIVE ME A TIME SLOT WHERE IT WAS STILL LIGHT OUTSIDE ... I HAVE A F--KING LIGHT SHOW DUMB A--, IT'S NOT CALLED GLOW IN THE DARK FOR NO REASON SQUID BRAINS!"

He added, "HAVING AN EXPENSIVE STAGE CUTS MY PAYDAY IN HALF... CALL ME WHAT YOU WANT BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL!!!"
