Caron Butler signs with Oklahoma City Thunder

Caron Butler is going to sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He informed teams of his decision on Friday.

Butler was able to get a buyout from the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday. He is expected to clear waivers on Saturday and then he will be able to sign with the Thunder, according to Yahoo Sports, which was the first to report the news. He will be with the Thunder for the rest of the season, however it is unknown whether he’ll stay with the Thunder after this season. The Thunder were also interested in Danny Granger, but he signed with the Los Angeles Clippers. Butler was considering the Heat as well as the Thunder.

In his 12-year career Butler has bounced around from team to team. In 2002 he was the 10th overall pick by the Heat. In addition to the Heat and the Bucks, he has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers, Washington Wizards, and the Dallas Mavericks. Butler has averaged 15.3 points per game in his career and this season has scored 11 points per game and has a shooting percentage of 36, according to Fox Sports. He has 38 points and 17 rebounds in his last two games.

The acquisition of Butler is good news for the Thunder. Thunder center Kendrick Perkins is out for the rest of the regular season with a groin injury. That means that Butler can be a big help to the Thunder’s offense. The Thunder have lost three straight games, so they could use help with their offense. The Thunder are currently 43-15 on the season.
