Chiwetel Ejiofor responds to BAFTA win for Steve McQueen's ‘12 Years A Slave’

Chiwetel Ejiofor took home a BAFTA Award for his work as Leading Actor in 12 Years a Slave.

In 12 Years a Slave he plays Solomon Northup, a free black man from upstate New York that is abducted and sold into slavery. According to The Independent, Ejiofor said, “There are so many people that I need to thank on this journey in a way. You know, people that have guided and inspired me all through the years and chief among them is Pippa Markham, who is remarkable and Alex Irwin.”

No stranger to filmmaking, Ejiofor was also seen in Talk to Me, Redbelt, and American Gangster. He was also seen on the small screen in The Shadow Line and Dancing on the Edge.

Many are guessing if we will see the same actors taking home Academy Awards this year in March. Like Ejiofor, Jennifer Lawrence and Cate Blanchett also took home BAFTA awards this past weekend. At the ceremony on Sunday, 12 Years a Slave won Best Film.

The 67th Annual BAFTA Awards took place on Feb. 16 in London. The Academy Awards will be held on March 2.
