CVS robber foils himself by calling cell phone dropped at the scene of the crime

Thanks to the help of a brave CVS customer, an armed robber has been apprehended.

On the evening of February 24, a man entered a CVS in Saint Paul, Minnesota and brandished a butcher’s knife. The man demanded money from the cashier when a customer sprung into action, according to The New York Daily News.

The man leapt onto the counter and kicked the robber in the face. During the fight, the thief lost his jacket, a shoe, and his cell phone, though he managed to escape.

The thief has been identified as 28-year-old Simon Hanson and authorities were able to catch him in a surprising turn of events.

Astonishingly, after losing his cell phone, Hanson called it. The phone had been taken into police custody and without disclosing this, an officer agreed to meet Hanson at a supermarket at 3:30 am.

According to KARE, when Hanson pulled into the parking lot of the supermarket, police attempted to close in on him, but he sped away, causing an 80 mph police chase. Eventually Hanson pulled over and was taken into custody.

Hanson reportedly attempted to rob a gas station before the CVS incident, however, the gas station attendant hit the silent alarm causing the alleged thief to flee.

Hanson was one charged with one count of first-degree attempted aggravated robbery.

At the time of his arrest, a felony warrant was already issued for Hanson’s arrest for his alleged attempt to use a forged check.
