Eric Barron chosen as new president at Penn State

Eric Barron, who previously was the Florida State University president, has been tapped to be the new president for Penn State University.

The announcement that Barron was taking over for Rodney Erickson was made on Monday by Penn State's trustees, reports USA Today. He previously taught and was a dean at the university.

The 62-year-old is moving from one college, which recently faced the scandal of its star quarterback, Jameis Winston, who was accused of sexual assault, but later not charged due to lack of evidence, to one still moving on from its own scandal with its football program and Jerry Sandusky.

According to The New York Times, Barron could be earning $6 million for five years through salary and additional compensation.

In return, Penn State is getting a leader who put a lot of effort into the Florida State athletic program, including getting more out of its boosters and getting it back to a stable financial level.

When Barron previously worked at Penn State for 20 years, he was the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences dean and focused on climate, environmental change and oceanography.
