'Frozen' hits No. 1 on Billboard again, earns most weeks at the top for a soundtrack since 'Titanic'

Frozen has already joined the record books at the box office and now its soundtrack is doing the same in Billboard. The album scored its fifth non-consecutive week at No. 1, the most for a soundtrack since Titanic.

As previously reported, Frozen was widely expected to reach that milestone, since it had little competition. The only major competition is The Outsiders, the latest album from Eric Church.

So, it’s not surprising that Billboard reported today that Frozen sold 89,000 copies this past week. That’s actually down 11 percent from last week, when it was No. 2 behind Church’s album. As for Church, The Outsiders dropped to No. 2 with 74,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan numbers.

Frozen has now earned five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. It’s the most successful soundtrack since Titanic, which scored 16 consecutive weeks at No. 1 from January to May 1998. Since the SoundScan era started in 1991, only three other soundtracks have racked up at least five weeks at No. 1: The Bodyguard, The Lion King and Waiting To Exhale.

(For the record, the all-time champion for soundtracks is West Side Story, which notched 54 weeks at No. 1.)

The best-selling debut last week was Cole Swindell’s self-titled first album. It sold 63,000 copies, good enough for No. 3. The Now 49 compilation hit No. 4 with 45,000 copies and BEYONCE rounded out the Top 5 with 35,000 copies.
