Icon will begin distributing films again in U.K., Don Cheadle’s Miles Davis biopic among first films

Icon Film Distribution will release new films. Among the projects for this year is a new movie directed by Don Cheadle.

Icon Film Distribution CEO Ian Dawson told The Hollywood Reporter, “We are delighted to be able to bring seven quality, highly distinctive and original films to the U.K. and Ireland as we continue to build Icon Film Distribution, its team and its line-up.”

Kill The Trumpet Player is the directorial debut from Cheadle. It is about the legendary musical figure, Miles Davis. The film stars Don Cheadle, Zoe Saldana, and Ewan McGregor. It was written by Don Cheadle, Steven Baigelman, Stephen J. Rivele, and Christopher Wilkinson. Music is by Herbie Hancock. The film is being shown to buyers in the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin by IM Global.

Icon is also taking on documentaries by filmmakers based abroad. Next Goal Wins is a documentary directed by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison. The film considers the real-life story of the American Samoa soccer team, according to Variety. New Sparta bought the distributor from Icon U.K. Group in September 2013.
