Jerry Seinfeld doesn’t care about diversity in comedy (Video)

In a new interview, Jerry Seinfeld was asked about diversity in comedy, which has recently become a hot topic, especially in the light of the lack of it on Saturday Night Live. However, for Seinfeld, diversity doesn’t seem to be a hot topic. All he cares about is if a person is funny or not.

During Seinfeld’s interview with BuzzFeed Brews for CBS This Morning, Seinfeld was asked about diversity, since most of his guests on Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee are white males. At first, Seinfeld really didn’t seem too happy about the question, but he talked about his episode with Tina Fey and how they discussed women in comedy.

“People think it’s the census or something,” Seinfeld said about comedy and pop culture. “This has gotta represent the actual pie chart of America?”

Seinfeld continued, “Who cares? Funny is the world that I live in. You’re funny, I’m interested. You’re not funny, I’m not interested. I have no interest in gender or race or anything like that.”

He said that the concern over race is “anti-comedy” and more politically correct “nonsense” than caring about if a person is funny or not.

Seinfeld has been back in the spotlight recently thanks to Comedians in Cars, but also for a Seinfeld reunion commercial during the Super Bowl. It brought back Jason Alexander and Wayne Knight, who played their characters on the iconic sitcom.
