Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski gear up for Oscars as fashion commentators

The collaboration between Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski isn’t over, despite the Olympics at Sochi coming to an end.

The duo that instantly became an Olympics favorite for their bright fashions as well as commentary during the figure skating competitions will be joining the Access Hollywood team on the red carpet for the Oscars.

Weir and Lipinski will be giving fashion critiques, according to Today, from a tower above the red carpet. Additionally to being at the Oscars on March 2, they will also be featured on Access Hollywood Live later this week, as well as Monday’s episode.

According to Today, Rob Silverstein, Access Hollywood executive producer, said that the duo is going to bring the same kind of commentary, witty and clever, that the audience saw while they were in Sochi.

“They have this rapport. They can finish each other sentences- and they’ve only worked together for two weeks basically,” Silverstein told Today. “I think that’s what you’ll see.”

Weir spoke to Access Hollywood, expressing his excitement for the new gig.

“I am honored and so excited to be a part of the team for Access Hollywood’s Oscar coverage,” He said according to Access Hollywood. “There is no time that LA shines brighter than during the Oscar’s and I hope to bring my own special brand of sparkle to the broadcast. I am so privileged to work with my great friend, Tara Lipinski, and together we hope to entertain America’s pants off.”

Lipinski told Today that the best part about taking on the role as the Oscars commentator, is that she will be working with Weir.

“Wherever we go from here, it’s fun to work together and I think that’s our comfort zone,” she said. “Going to the Oscars, it’s so glamorous and exciting. Sochi was a lot of hard work, and not that this won’t be, but it’s going to be also a lot of fun.”

In discussion of what she and Weir will be wearing for the big night Lipinski wasn’t quite sure yet.

“There’s going to be a lot of outfit coordination discussion,” she said.

Be sure to catch the duo on March 2.
