Koala bear back in San Diego Zoo enclosure after escaping

A two-year-old koala bear is back in his enclosure after he got out of it on Tuesday.

According to CNN, the koala named Mundu, broke out of his enclosure and spent the day sleeping in a tree above his exhibit.

Zookeepers spotted Mundu napping and were eventually able to get him back in his enclosure and have him checked out by a veterinarian.

The little guy is safe and sound and appeared fine after his time away.

NBC 7 reported that while it is not certain exactly how the marsupial got out, zoo spokesman, Ted Molter believes that Mundu may have grabbed a branch just outside the exhibit and swung his way out of it.

“He was born in 2012 so he was just recently weaned from his mom and as a young male with spring time coming he's becoming very much aware of being a young male so that sent him into a little bit of exploration mode," he said.

In addition to Mundu, the exhibit is home to 20 other koala bears.
