LeBron James to star in 'Space Jam 2' (Report)

LeBron James is reportedly on board for a sequel to Michael Jordan's 1996 live-action/animated film Space Jam.

According to Deadline, who first reported the news, the Warner Bros. sequel will be developed by Charlie Ebersol. He most recently worked on USA Network's NFL Characters Unite. He has mostly worked on unscripted programs, so this is Ebersol's first screenplay.

NBA superstar James is also supposedly on board to star in the film. Much like the first film, which was full of cameos from such former players a Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing and more, there will also be an attempt to get other current players involved somehow.

USA Today notes if the news is true, it isn't the only film the Miami Heat player has on his plate. He also is working on a project with Kevin Hart, who recently has been dominating at the box office. This film will also focus on basketball, but likely won't be partially animated.

Deadline notes that a sequel to Space Jam isn't super surprising since the first one did fairly well at the box office, grossing $230 million.

Warner Bros. also announced the release date for another sequel on Friday. The Lego Movie 2 is set to hit theaters May 26, 2017.
