Meryl Streep to play Emmeline Pankhurst in 'Suffragette'

Meryl Streep has her next movie role picked out. She will be playing Emmilene Pankhurst, who is known for being a suffragette leader.

Pankhurst is known for founding the Women's Franchise League and the Women's Social/Political Union, Variety reported.

Streep will be starting along side Carey Mulligan in the upcoming film, The Guardian reported. Also staring in the film will be Helena Bonham Carter, Romola Gara, Anne-Marie Duff and Samuel West.

Sarah Gavron, known for her work on Brick Lane will be directing the film. The script was written by Abi Morgan. Morgan and Streep has worked together on The Iron Lady which Streep won an Oscar for a little over two years ago.

The movie will tell the story of early activities for womens' lib and their run-ins with the government.

The movie will star filming in late February and will be on location in the U.K.

Streep will be attending the Academy Awards this year for her work in August: Osage County.
