Miami Marlins break ban on beards

The Miami Marlins are becoming more laid back with the harsh facial hair rules. While playoff Hockey especially welcomes beards, Baseball has always distanced facial hair from the sport.

Miami, known for being tight laced, has become lenient with their facial hair regulations, and beards are now welcomed back on the field.

"This year, we're going to let them have beards, but they have to keep it trimmed up," manager Mike Redmond said, according to theAssociated Press

Slightly longer hair is allowed too, but nothing that could be considered “sloppy.”

Players who enjoy displaying their hair growing abilities see it as a small victory, but the organization as a whole, views it as a minor, flexible decision.

Last year, Ricky Nolasco displayed a slight beard once in a while, but it had to be trimmed and kept neat.
Brian Flynn who plays lefty, had to keep the hair on the back of his neck in control as well. Three and a half inches had to be shaven off of his neck in order to adhere to the rules.

The Marlins have some of the most youthful ball players in the league, in which Redmond reflected on by saying “We’ve only got a handful of guys who can grow a beard,” as reported in MLB.com
