New Jersey Rep. Rob Andrews resigning after 23 years in Congress

New Jersey Representative Rob Andrews, a Democrat, is reportedly set to resign after serving 12 terms and 23 years in Congress. He is reportedly leaving to join a Philadelphia law firm as his campaign finances come under scrutiny.

A source for Philly.com said that Andrews will be resigning around President’s Day and will join a prominent law firm in Philadelphia in public affairs. State Sen. Donald Norcross is expected to run to replace Andrews.

According to the South Jersey Times, Andrews is in the middle of an ethics investigation into his use of campaign finances. In March 2013, a House subcommittee began looking into his use of $30,000 for a trip to Scotland and over personal expenses. A report from the Star Ledger in 2011 said that he used $10,000 for his daughter’s graduation party.

USA Today notes that he has denied the allegations of wrongdoing, saying they are “politically motivated.”

Andrews represents parts of Camden, Gloucester and Burlington Counties and was first elected in 1990. He did try an unsuccessful senate campaign in 2008 against then-Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

Andrews has a news conference scheduled for 11:30 a.m. today.
