Nicki Minaj apologizes for Malcolm X cover art

R&B singer and superstar, Nicki Minaj has issued an apology following the use of a famous photo of Malcom X with a rifle in his hand and juxtaposing it with a racial slur. This was the cover art for her new single. The song is titled, "Lookin Ass Ni--a."

Minaj posted the picture on her website and Instagram page, she instantly received criticism over the photo, Billboard reported.

The "Starships" singer posted an apology on her Instagram account on Thursday. She explained that this is supposed to start a conversation and that she is in the process of shooting the music video currently. She did apologize for the image but explained her reasoning behind its usage.

"I am in the video shooting at Lookin Ass N---az and there happened to be an iconic photo of Malcolm X ready to do the same thing for what he believed in!!!! It is in no way to undermine his efforts and legacy," said Minaj.

MTV reported that Minaj's fans supported her artwork and were pleased that she addressed the issue calmly.
