President Obama to award Medal of Honor to 24 veterans

Congratulations are in order. President Obama will award the Medal of Honor to two dozen veterans next month.

The veterans that will be awarded are of Hispanic, Jewish, and African-American descent that were previously passed over for the award due to their ethnicity reported the The Washington Post.

The ceremony will be held for on Mar 18 in the White House East Room where with only three of the recipients as the rest are not living according to the Associated Press. The recipients previously served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam and form the largest group of service members honored at one time since World War II.

All of the veterans have already been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, the nation’s second highest military award behind the Medal of Honor.

This ceremony comes as a result of a 12-year review that was ordered by Congress to look into the past discrimination into the ranks. As a result, the nation’s first African American president will address discrimination in the military.
