Respiratory failure to blame in deaths of two Navy SEALs

Authorities have revealed that respiratory failure is to blame for the deaths of two former Navy SEALs who were found aboard the Captain Phillips ship.

According to the Associated Press, local Seychelles police said that Jeffrey Keith Reynolds and Mark Daniel Kennedy died of respiratory failure and were suspected to have had heart attacks, possibly caused by drug use. A syringe and traces of heroin were found in their cabin.

Samples are being sent out to Mauritius to determine if the drugs were responsible for the deaths.

On Wednesday, CNN reported that the bodies of the two men, who were working as security contractors, were discovered in the Maersk Alabama container ship, which was docked in Port Victoria.

From the start, officials have called the circumstances surrounding their deaths “bizarre.”

The cargo ship in which they were found on was hijacked by pirates near Somalia in 2009. Captain Richard Phillips was held captive and rescued days later by Navy SEALs snipers. The story was depicted in the 2013 Captain Phillips film.
