Riders stuck on roller coaster during storm in Florida

Several riders became trapped on a roller coaster at Busch Gardens Theme Park in Tampa, Fla. during a severe thunderstorm.

According to the Associated Press, 16 passengers got stuck on the Cheetah Hunt roller coaster when the ride stop functioning on Wednesday around 2:30 p.m.

The car was stuck in a spot that was not easy for rescue workers to access.

The ride malfunctioned near the loading station, park spokesperson Travis Claytor told NBC 6.

While the riders were stuck on the track, right side up, the rain from the storm began to pour down on them.

By 6:00 p.m. Tampa Fire and Rescue put up a message on its Twitter account that firefighters had safely got everyone off the coaster. None of the riders were injured during the incident and amusement park personnel has not yet determined what caused the ride to break down.

The Cheetah Hunt coaster that boasts drops, twists and turns did not reopen.
