USA's Noelle Pikus-Pace wins silver in skeleton event

American Noelle Pikus-Pace nabbed the silver medal in the women’s skeleton competition.

The Associated Press reported that Pikus-Pace came in behind Britain's Lizzy Yarnold, who won the gold medal. Elena Nikitina of Russia took third place and the bronze medal.

Yarnold’s four-run time was 3 minutes, 52.89 seconds. The American skeleton racer had a time of 3:53.86 and Nikitina finished with a time of 3:54.30.
Pikus-Pace is from Utah and has won five medals at the FIBT World Championships.

The 28-year-old has faced many trials and tribulations throughout her career. She even retired following the 2010 Olympics, but after a miscarriage, she decided to give it one more try in Sochi. She tweeted that this would be her final run.

USA Today noted that Pikus-Pace missed a medal in Vancouver by one-tenth of a second. Before her win on Thursday she said, "Obviously everybody is going for that gold medal … but I'm pretty sure I'll be pretty stoked just to be on the podium."

And so she will be.
