Warner Bros. already developing 'LEGO Movie' sequel

After earning early positive reviews, Warner Bros. is reportedly developing a sequel to The LEGO Movie, even though it doesn’t come out until Friday. The animated film, which is poised to be a hit, was written and directed by 21 Jump Street and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

The sequel will be written by The Internship’s Jared Stern with Michelle Morgan (Girl Most Likely), reports TheWrap.

According to Variety, which also confirmed the news, Stern is a member of a group of writers Warner Bros. hired in 2013 to come up with ideas for animated films. The LEGO Movie is the first project to come out of the brain trust. That group also includes Lord, Miller, Nicholas Stoller (Muppets), Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (Bad Santa).

The LEGO Movie features the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie and Morgan Freeman and the animation was produced by Animal Logic. While Pratt’s lead character is an original creation and the driving force of the film, many Warner Bros. properties like Batman appear in the film.

The movie is expected to make around $40 million at the box office this weekend and is up against George Clooney’s The Monuments Men and Vampire Academy.
