14-year-old charged with second degree murder in Brooklyn

A 14-year-old boy has been charged with second degree murder for the death of a Brooklyn man Thursday night.

Kahton Anderson, the teenager, may be tried as an adult, reports the NY Daily News. Angel Rojas, 39, was shot in the head while riding a bus home; he was not the target. After the shooting, Kahton allegedly got off the bus and fired five shots at someone who was running away.

Rojas worked two jobs to support his family and was leaving a 12-hour shift. His family reportedly can no longer afford the home they have and must move to a lower-cost location.

Sources say that Anderson will be tried as an adult in this case. He supposedly had the gun to go after another kid who was a member of a rival gang. BBC reports that the target has not been located at this time.

2013 was a reported record low for homicide rates in New York’s history, however they are still very apparent.
