Accused Michigan fugitive released from jail

A 60-year-old woman has been released from fugitive charges Friday after authorities found out she had already served her time.

Judy Lynn Hayman went to jail on a charge of stealing clothes decades ago and was sentenced to 18 to 24 months in prison. In 1977, reports the Associated Press, Hayman had escaped prison and was on the run.

Police promptly arrested Hayman on February 4, believing she was still a wanted criminal. But after spending a little over a month in prison, it was discovered that she had surrendered to the police back in 1982 and already served her time for the crime and breaking out. 10 News reports that Judge Michael Smyth ordered her releases Friday.

Hayman, who now goes by Jamie Lewis, was dismissed of all charges and is not currently wanted for any crimes.

Hayman had pleaded guilty back in 1976 for a misdemeanor charge in regards to attempted larceny. Her files have been corrected by Michigan authorities to show that her time had been served.
