Atlanta Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy may miss 2014 MLB season

The Atlanta Braves have been known for their strong defense and outstanding pitching. This offseason has been rough so far for the Braves after it was announced Tuesday that pitcher Kris Medlen will probably miss this season with his second Tommy John’s surgery. The Braves could be losing another starting pitcher as Brandon Beachy is fearful that he will have to go through the same procedure as Medlen.

MLB is reporting that Beachy and Medlen will both be evaluated by Dr. James Andrews on Monday for the final results but both pitchers are prepared for the worst and the realization about having this surgery for the second time in four years. Dr. Andrews performed both the previous Tommy John’s surgeries, Beachy underwent his procedure in June 2012 while Medlen had his in August 2012.

Beachy had his surgery in June 2012 and he returned to the Braves at the end of July 2013. He had just a few starts and was hoping to come back strong this upcoming season. Sports Illustrated mentions how Beachy came out of his start this past Monday with soreness in his biceps which was the cause for him leaving the game.

Beachy is very frustrated with the possibility of missing this season. The loss of Beachy means that two of the top pitchers in the Braves’ rotation will be out, leaving the pitching rotation to be made up of young pitchers who will hope to help lead the Atlanta Braves to another appearance in the MLB postseason.
