New York’s Sixth Street has plenty to offer in Indian cuisine. One restaurant that sticks out, however, is Brick Lane Curry House.
Named after the Brick Lane area of London famous for its curry houses, Brick Lane Curry House offers an English-Indian menu light on tandooris and khurmas and heavy on kebabs and curries that will knock your socks off.
It’s a little restaurant that fills up quickly but the good news is they are moving to a larger location with expanded outdoor seating.
For starters we had the Lassuni Gobi. Crispy cauliflower florets were tossed in a tomato and garlic sauce and pakora. They were absolutely delicious. The sauce was tangy and not too spicy, and the cauliflower and pakora were crispy and fresh.
For dinner we tried tofu tikka masala simply because it usually is a chicken dish. The sauce was excellent and the tofu was a nice change. The chana masala was excellent as well.
Indian cuisine has some great breads which were all on this menu with some extras we haven’t seen before such as rosemary, basil and ginger breads.
The main dishes we ordered were large enough for two people. Get more bang for your buck and delight your taste buds by getting bread and appetizers as well.
Brick Lane Curry House is located at 306-308, East 6th Street in Manhattan. They are open Sunday-Thursday from noon to 11pm and Friday-Saturday noon to 1am.
