CBS makes huge deal to renew 'The Big Bang Theory' for three seasons

The Big Bang Theory, the most popular sitcom on television today, has just been renewed for an astonishing three more seasons. That means that Jason Galecki, Jim Parsons and Kaley Cuoco will certainly have job security for the next few years.

Big Bang will stay on the air through the 2016-2017 television season, providing CBS with an anchor in its comedy lineup. It is a major deal for the network, as its other flagship comedy, How I Met Your Mother, wraps up its nine-season run this month.

“This multi-year deal further strengthens our network’s position for future seasons and marks another chapter in the great partnership CBS enjoys with Warner Bros. Television for delivering audiences the best in comedy,” Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment, said in a statement. “We’re proud to work with and showcase the incredible talents of Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and this amazing cast every week.”

Big Bang has been on since September 2007 and has won an armful of Emmys, People’s Choice Awards and others during its run. It was created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady and is produced by Warner Bros. TV.

The deal comes after the cast was in contract negotiations last fall. The show airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. overshadowing all of its competition.

TBS is also likely jumping for joy over the news. The network has grown in popularity as the home for Big Bang repeats and this deal means that it will have even more episodes to run at every hour of the day.
