Creators of ‘Frozen’ are revealing what they did to create special effects

Animators involved with the film, Frozen, are explaining how they created the film’s snowy environment.

According to The Telegraph, Michael Giaimo, the film's art director, said, “We really looked at snow properties upside down, all ways round. Because we knew we had to raise the bar for this film. There've been other CG [computer-generated] films that dealt with properties of snow. But we knew in this show, since it was so pervasive and so extensive that we would just have to go beyond what anyone has done before."

The filmmakers consulted scientific experts and even took a trip to Cheyenne, Wyoming to wade through snowdrifts. No stranger to animated films, Michael Giaimo previously worked on Pocahontas, FernGully: The Last Rainforest, and Christmas is Here Again.

Frozen is the first Disney animated film to gross more than $1 billion. It surpassed Toy Story 3 in terms of popularity, according to the LA Times. In addition to the stellar numbers, Frozen won two Oscars, included Best Animated Feature Film of the Year.
