Drake wins top emerging artist at MTV’s Woodie Awards

Drake wins Woodie of the Year at MTV’s Woodie Awards on Thursday night.

The rapper and singer won top emerging artist during the awards on Thursday. Drake is originally from Toronto, Ontario and is best known for his albums, Take Care and Nothing Was the Same. He was known as Jimmy Brooks in Degrassi: The Next Generation.

The Woodies honor music that college students love. Fans were able to vote on MTV’s website and pick their favorite artists. The nominees were announced in advance, and fans were able to vote on MTV’s website to pick their favorite artists. Best new artist was won by The 1975. Chance won the Woodie for “Everybody’s Something.” The performing Woodie went to Ed Sheeran. Other winners included Beyonce, A$AP Rocky and Skillrex who won for “Wild For the Night, according to MTV. The award for College Radio Woodiee went to WESS at East Stroudsburg University in East Stroudsburg, PA.

The awards show will air on Sunday, March 16 on MTV at 8PM. According to the Associated Press, the program was recorded on Thursday with The 1975, Childish Gambino, Charli XCX and Iggy Azalea.
