Ebola outbreak in Guinea kills at least 59 people

At least 59 people have died in Guinea from what UNICEF has called an Ebola outbreak.

According to the Daily Mail, the first cases of the hemorrhagic fever were spotted last month and analysts said they have never seen the common Uganda disease in Guinea before.

CNN noted that UNICEF’s statement on the outbreak said at least 59 out of 80 people who contracted Ebola have died.

"In Guinea, a country with a weak medical infrastructure, an outbreak like this can be devastating," said UNICEF representative in Guinea, Dr. Mohamed Ag Ayoya.

The virus is an often fatal disease that occurs in humans and primates.

There is no known cure for the deadly disease, which is spread by personal contact. Quarantine units are being set up in the affected areas.

Some of the symptoms include arthritis, chills, diarrhea, fatigue, fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and internal as well as external bleeding. The five characterized Ebola species are the Zaire, Sudan, Reston, Ivory Coast and Bundibugyo Ebolavirus. The Reston type was recently found in the Philippines.
