Eric Decker signs with New York Jets

Former Denver Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker signed with the New York Jets on Wednesday. The deal is for five years and $7.3 million a year.

Decker was considered by many as the top free agent in the wide receiver position. As a result of him being a top receiver, the Jets weren’t the only team interested in Decker. The Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars were also interested in Decker, according to the Denver Post.

"I'm very thankful for my four years in Denver," Decker said. "I think it's one of the greatest cities to play in. Unfortunately, I never got an offer from the Broncos. Denver will always be a part of me. I'm excited about New York being my new community and starting a new chapter in my life. On top of all that, my wife's expecting our baby any second."

Decker is one of the best receivers in the NFL. In 2012 he 85 receptions for 1,064 yards and a career-best 13 touchdowns. Last year he had a career-high 87 catches for 1,288 yards and 11 touchdowns, according to the Associated Press. He and Demaryius Thomas were the best receiving duo in the NFL last year as they had 2,718 yards combined.

The Jets have made alot of moves so far this offseason. They have released Antonio Cromartie and on Monday they released wide receiver Santonio Holmes. Releasing Holmes saves the Jets $8.25 million and they could save another $8.3 million if they release Mark Sanchez, who was out last season due to a shoulder injury.

In addition to Decker, the Jets also signed former Seattle Seahawks right tackle Breno Giacomini on Wednesday. They have also resigned backup defensive lineman Leger Douzable.
