Explosion in a New Jersey neighborhood kills 1 and injures 7

A fatal explosion hit in a New Jersey townhouse neighborhood that took the life of one and injured seven people. The explosion is suspected to be gas related.

CNN reports that Public Service Electric & Gas workers were called to the townhouse neighborhood to checkout the gas line that could have been accidently tampered with by one of the company’s contractors.

The deadly explosion occurred an hour after PSE&G workers were trying to mend the damages to the gas line. When the explosion occurred it caused the windows to break, fires ignited and debris was shattered over the housing facility.

In lieu to the tragic event Ewing Police Lt. Ron Lunetta released a brief statement saying, "Obviously, where it happened is devastated. I mean, it's really bad."

Fox 8 added that fifty five of the two and three story townhouses were destroyed in the mist of the explosion.

The seven people that were injured did not suffer from life threatening injuries. Unfortunately the identity of the resident that died was not available right away.

The director of the gas construction at PSE&G says there is an investigation in process to see if the root of the explosion was because of the damaged gas line.
