Investigators say speed was to blame for Paul Walker’s car crash

The Porsche that Paul Walker was driving at the time of his accident was travelling at a speed of up to 93 mph before it crashed, killing him and his friend, according to an investigation by the L.A. county sheriff.

According to The LA Times, investigators were able to watch surveillance footage and electronic data from the car to determine the speed.

The car slammed into a pole that had a speed limit sign reading 45 mph, before catching on fire. The Fast & Furious actor was driving at approximately double the speed limit before killing him and his friend, Roger Rodas.

“The vehicle had no mechanical failure and the damage that occurred to the vehicle was from the collision,” an accident reconstruction specialist said, reports The Associate Press.

Investigators also determined that there was no sign of any car system or mechanical problems. Along with the speed, however, was a pair of 9-year-old tires that may have added to the crash.

Walker, 40, and Rodas, 38, owned an auto racing team together called Always Evolving. They had been travelling on their way back from a charity event for Walker’s organization, Reach Our Worldwide.
