Iowa State loses key player for rest of tournament

Iowa State's victory over North Carolina Central Friday night in the NCAA Tournament came at a big cost to the team as they lost one of their best and most important players.

Iowa State sophomore forward Georges Niang fractured his right foot in the second half of the Cyclones' win. The injury will cost Niang to have to sit out the rest of his team's games in the NCAA Tournament, according to ESPN.

USA Today reports that the injury occurred when an opposing player stepped on Niang's foot.

Niang has been a very important player for the Cylcones this season and has been key to the team's success and run into the tournament. He averaged 16.5 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game in the 2013-14 season, according to USA Today.

The Iowa State Cyclones are set to play the North Carolina Tar Heels Sunday evening in the round of 32 of the March Madness Tournament.

The game Sunday will be a tough test for the Cyclones and the remaining healthy players will have to step up their game in order to get past the Tar Heels and move on to the Sweet 16.
