Jennifer Lawrence snubbed by MTV Movie Awards, ‘Hunger Games’ fans start petition

While Jennifer Lawrence earned plenty of love from the MTV Movie Awards, she was shockingly left out of the top hero category. So, her legion of Hunger Games fans got to work and started a petition to get her a nomination in that category.

The Care2 Petition now has over 10,200 signatures from fans who are all sad that Katniss Everdeen isn’t considered a big enough hero to be in the category.

The author points out that there isn’t a single female hero in the category, notes E! News. “Don't let a strong woman like Katniss be overlooked,” author Sophie Arzan wrote.

“Young women already have too few female heroes represented in film and television,” arzan pointed out. “We're constantly shown by the entertainment industry that men are brave, powerful, or successful, while women are often given supporting roles and weak characters.”

While Lawrence wasn’t nominated in the hero category, she did earn nominations for her performance in American Hustle, which also earned her another Oscar nod. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was nominated for Movie of the Year; Male Performance (Josh Hutcherson); Fight (Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Sam Claflin vs. Mutant Monkeys); Shirtless Performance (Sam Claflin); Villain (Donald Sutherland); and On-Screen Transformation (Elizabeth Banks).

The MTV Movie Awards are on Sunday.
