Jimi Hendrix official biopic on the way after estate joins ICM Partners

Experience Hendrix LLC, the estate of legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix, has just signed with ICM Partners. The agency's first order of business will be to finally produce the first official biopic of the “Purple Haze” singer.

The news was first reported by Deadline. Although many have tried to woo Hendrix’s sister, Janie Hendrix, to approve of making a biopic, all have failed until now. There’s no word on who ICM and Experience will make the film with, but it’s clear from their statement that this is a top priority for them.

“Our concern has always been that any biography of Jimi that employs his music be held to the very highest standard of cinematic excellence,” Janie Hendrix said in a statement. “His musical legacy deserves no less.”

Even without Janie Hendrix’s seal of approval, filmmakers have tried to make Hendrix biopics, even if they can’t include the timeless music he made. 12 Years A Slave writer John Ridley just completed work on All Is By My Side, which tells the story of Hendrix’s early days in the U.K. It will feature none of Hendrix’s own music and stars Andre Benjamin as Hendrix.

Hendrix died in 1970 at age 27, producing only three albums and a live record during his lifetime.

USA Today notes that Hendrix is also getting a stamp from the U.S. Postal Service, with art from Rudy Gutierrez.
