John Cho joins Karen Gillan in ABC pilot 'Selfie' from 'Suburgatory' creator

Star Trek actor John Cho will be joining Karen Gillan in Selfie, a comedy pilot in development at ABC. It was created by Suburgatory’s Emily Kapnek.

Cho will play the male lead in the pilot, reports TheWrap. He is a marketing expert named Henry who has a different background from the social media addicts of today. His challenge is to help Eliza, who has a terrible reputation online. Gillan was cast as Eliza January.

It’s described as a modern spin on My Fair Lady and Pygmalion. Clearly, Kapneck is embracing this idea, since she’s given her two leads the same names as the main characters in George Bernard Shaw’s play.

Cho’s casting was also reported by Deadline.

The actor gained fame as Harold in the Harold & Kumar films, but earned even more attention when J.J. Abrams cast him as Sulu in his Star Trek reboot series. He’s expected to reprise the role in the next Trek film. His last TV job was NBC’s short-lived Go On.

Gillan also has some sci-fi experience as she recently starred on Doctor Who and will be in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Warner Bros. TV is producing Selfie.
