Melissa George tapped to co-star in ABC's Katie Holmes series

Australian actress Melissa George has signed on to star opposite Rufus Sewell in ABC's upcoming drama series, in which Katie Holmes also has a regular role.

The drama pilot comes from Richard LaGravenese and does not currently have a title, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The plot focuses on two socialites (Sewell and George) who enjoy manipulating others in their rivalry and obsessive attraction with each other.

George's character is Margot Worth Cole, whose marriage to billionaire Anderson Cole (played by The Mummy actor Oded Fehr) has ended and she learns he tricked her with their divorce settlement.

Cole is described as an intelligent and commanding woman who doesn't see many people as her equal. She only views Sewell's Philip, her ex-lover, as an equal and enlists his help to get revenge against Anderson.

Holmes was cast to play philanthropic Ann, who is working on a project to bring clean water to African villages and she stumbles into the sights of Cole and Philip.

Holmes signed on for the project last week and it will be the actress' first series role since working on Dawson's Creek.

The pilot is being produced by ABC Studios, with LaGravenese, Erwin Stoff, Wren Arthur and Illene Staple on board to executive produce. Taylor Hackford has been tapped to direct.
