More than 30 injured after train derailment at Chicago’s O’Hare airport

More than 30 people were injured after a train derailment at Chicago’s O’Hare airport on Monday morning.

According to the Chicago Tribune, authorities have said that a Chicago Transit Authority train jumped the platform and climbed up an escalator at the end of the Blue Line in the subway station.

"The train actually climbed over the last stop, jumped up on the sidewalk and then went up the stairs and escalators," Chicago Fire Department Commissioner Jose Santiago said.

The wreck happened just before 3 a.m. local time and it was not immediately known what caused the derailment as officials are still investigating.

NBC Chicago has reported that the 32 injured were all adults and no one suffered any life threatening injuries. Most are listed in stable condition at area hospitals.

Luckily, the accident occurred at one of the least busy times in the usually bustling airport.

O’Hare International is the second busiest airport in the United States behind Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
