Nicolas Sarkozy, wife Carla Bruni to sue aide over secret audio recordings

Nicolas Sarkozy and wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy are set to file a legal complaint aimed at a legal advisor who secretly recorded them during the last election.

Patrick Buisson is being accused of secretly recorded private conversations made ahead of the 2012 elections, reports Reuters. Sarkozy's laywer Thierry Herzog said, "Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy and Mrs. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy cannot accept that remarks made in private were recorded and published without their consent."

He then said that they will be submitting their complaint shortly to the Paris Grand Instance Court and will aim to prosecute Buissson. "Protecting the secrecy of private conversations is ... one of the founding principles of a democratic society."

According to The Telegraph, Buisson recorded conversations in 2011, none of which seem to contain anything beyond slightly embarrassing remarks.

In the conversations released jointly by newspaper Canard Enchaine and Atlantico, a website, Bruni-Sarkozy is heard teasing that due to her fortune, made through fashion, Sarkozy is a "kept man."

Another released excerpt has Sarkozy discussing a soon-to-be ousted minister and calling them "rubbish."

Buisson said through his lawyer Giles-William Goldnadel that he has filed a complaint regarding theft of the tapes, but acknowledged he did make them, citing the recordings were done out of a need for accurate records.
