Phillies’ Jimmy Rollins dismisses trade rumors

This spring training Jimmy Rollins trade rumors have been flying out of Bright House Field more than baseballs and on Wednesday the shortstop addressed and debunked the rumors. noted that Rollins said that he is not going anywhere.

“I don’t care which way it is tried to be twisted or said, or if it is exactly how it was said, or even if it was said, I can’t be traded,” he told reporters. “It doesn’t matter. If I was tradable it may have weight because that means I could be moving soon. But I am not tradable and so it doesn’t matter.”

According to Sports Illustrated, the 35-year-old would be hard to move since he has at least 10 years of MLB service and five years with one team, so he can invoke his 10-and-5 rights and block any trade. He also would have to approve any move.

The trade rumors really gained ground last week after Philadelphia Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg benched him for three straight games.

Sandberg was then asked about J-Roll’s influence in the clubhouse to which he replied “no comment.”

What seemed like obvious contention between the no-nonsense manager and the veteran player led many to believe that the two could not see eye-to-eye and that the Phillies were looking to move the shortstop. But now, Rollins has made it clear that he most likely will be in a Phils uniform for at least another year.
