Reds pitcher Aroldis Chapman struck in face by line drive

In a spring training game, Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman took a line drive to his face. Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez hit the ball, and it hit Chapman above his left eye.

According to USA Today, Chapman was carted off the field, but he was not unconscious. When he was taken to a hospital for testing, Chapman was revealed to have a fracture over his left eye and nose. After Chapman went down to the ground, he was kicking and covering his face.

FOX Sports reports that Chapman's injury caused the umpires to call the game, giving the Royals a 6-3 win.

Chapman is well-known for his fastball, which has often reached over 100 miles per hour. He has made a significant impact for the Reds since signing with them in 2010 as a Cuban defector. His fastball has helped him attain a 14.7 strikeout-per-nine innings rate, and he has logged 38 saves in each of the past two seasons.

The Reds are expected to get an update on Chapman's condition Thursday morning.
