'Veronica Mars' film with Kristen Bell shown at SXSW

The movies continue at SXSW, the music and film festival that is currently taking place in Austin, Texas. This year, Veronica Mars makes a splash.

The film, created by Rob Thomas, screened on Saturday, according to the LA Times. The movie features Kristen Bell as Veronica Mars, a teenage private eye trying to solve a murder mystery. Bell’s co-stars include Jason Dohring and Enrico Colantoni.

There was plenty of advance press about the film, and distributors are making the uncommon move of releasing the movie for digital download the same day as the theatrical release. The film will also be available for video on demand beginning March 14.

Kickstarter kept the brand alive, after the television show by the same name was cancelled. According to Indiewire, Thomas told fans at the SXSW screening, “Finally, most important -- and I think I can say this more than any other movie that has ever been made -- thank you to the fans of Veronica Mars. The Kickstarter backers, we would not exist without you. This was the only way this movie was going to get made. Thank you so much. I hope you enjoy the movie."
